A cracker of a start

Just a quick note…Day 1 of the 2010/11 trout season has been nothing short of spectacular. There are heaps of trout in the Thredbo River, predominantly rainbows, given they are still running. Most fish caught are around the 2 to 3lb mark. Please take a quick photo of your fish and release them ASAP as these spawners are crucial for the well being of our streams.

Cormorants are already working the rivers in large numbers which is probably no surprise given some sections of the nearby rivers are choking with fish. You can realistically fish a 100 meter stretch of river over a couple of hours – so fish diligently. A dropper rig I reckon is still the way to go – nice and neat - and today the indicator fly got smashed on several occasions when the day warmed up. Dry fly action is just around the corner. Some lovely wild brumbies were seen in the high country – a super day and so many more to come.

If you want to get away to some special places with very little angler pressure give me a buzz. Back out to hit a little favorite creek of mine. David
